Denton Municipal Electric Announces Power Purchase Agreement for 100MW Battery Storage

Denton, Texas - Oct. 1, 2025 - Denton Municipal Electric (DME) is proud to announce a new power purchase agreement (PPA) with Jupiter Power, LLC for 100 megawatts (MW) of battery storage capacity through the Tidwell Power II project located in central Texas. The agreement, which was approved by Denton City Council during the Sept. 30 meeting. marks a significant step forward in DME's commitment to energy reliability, sustainability, and innovation.

Under the terms of the agreement, DME will procure 100MW of battery storage with a two-hour duration. The contract spans a 10-year term and is scheduled to begin delivering power in June 2026.

Battery storage will continue to play an expanding role in the ERCOT, contributing to grid reliability, especially during peak demand periods and the evening hours when solar generation declines but energy usage remains high. By storing excess energy and dispatching it when needed, battery systems help mitigate price volatility and enhance grid resilience.

This agreement further diversifies DME's energy portfolio, which already includes 100% renewable energy sourced from wind and solar. The addition of battery storage ensures that DME can continue to deliver safe, reliable power to its customers while adapting to the evolving demands of the Texas energy market.

"We're excited for this forward-looking project," said Tony Puente, DME General Manager. "Battery storage is an important component of our strategy to maintain affordability, reliability, and sustainability for the Denton community."
