WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and Congressman John Moolenaar (R-MI), co-chairs of the Congressional School Choice Caucus, led their colleagues in introducing a resolution designating Jan. 25-31, 2026, as National School Choice Week. The resolution is co-led by Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Ashley Moody (R-FL) and the House companion bill is led by Rep. John Moolenaar (R-MI-02).
National School Choice Week is a celebration of opportunity and a reminder that education is not one-size-fits-all. When families have a choice, kids have a chance! My life's experience attending schools with fewer resources as well as schools offering greater opportunities has shown me the importance of empowering parents to choose quality education for their kids," said Sen. Scott. "Having more good teachers and mentors can change the direction of one's life. It certainly did for me!"
"Children should have every opportunity to succeed in school, regardless of income or zip code," said Dr. Cassidy. "This National School Choice Week, we celebrate giving parents the power to choose the best education option for their child."
"A student's future should never be determined by their zip code. Every family should be able to choose the learning environment that meets their child's unique needs. In Florida, we got that right. On National School Choice Week, we reaffirm our commitment to bringing this winning approach of educational freedom nationwide to ensure students everywhere are set up for success," said Senator Moody.
"Students deserve to have the chance to pursue the best education available to them, one that provides the best environment for learning, and one that provides them the opportunity to reach their highest potential. Parents must have a role in their child's education. I am grateful for the support of my colleagues as we introduce this resolution to recognize parents' rights in their children's education," said Congressman John Moolenaar.
The resolution is co-sponsored by Sens. James Lankford (R-OK), Katie Britt (R-AL), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Tom Tillis (R-NC), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Pete Ricketts (R-NE), John Boozman (R-AR), Mike Lee (R-UT), Rick Scott (R-FL), Steve Daines (R-MT), Jon Husted (R-OH), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Jim Banks (R-IN), Jim Justice (R-WV), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Jim Risch (R-ID), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Ted Budd (R-NC), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), John Cornyn (R-TX), Todd Young (R-IN), and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL).

BACKGROUND
As co-chair of the Congressional School Choice Caucus and a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Sen. Scott has been a leading advocate for expanding educational opportunities for all families, particularly those in underserved communities.
Sen. Scott has worked to advance policies that support charter schools, education savings accounts, scholarship tax credits, and other programs that expand educational opportunities and choices for families.
National School Choice Week, now in its 16th year, celebrates these efforts by highlighting the power of choice in education, recognizing schools and programs offering alternatives to traditional public schooling, and supporting the families who seek the best opportunities for their children.
