El Paso & Pueblo Counties - The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner, Morton Electric, will begin work the first week of May to enhance driver safety with traffic signal backplates at multiple locations across Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Highways impacted include:
Traffic signal backplates improve visibility by providing higher contrast around the signal heads making the lights standout more clearly. They also reduce sun glare and increase signal recognition from a distance, providing motorists with greater reaction times.
The project is expected to move quickly and starts in Pueblo on CO 45. The crew anticipates completing four signals per week. Project completion is expected in mid-August.
