March Local Employment and Unemployment Data Released

MADISON - The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development today released U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates of employment and unemployment statistics for metropolitan areas, major cities, and counties in Wisconsin for March 2026.

In brief, the nonseasonally adjusted data for Wisconsin shows:

• Metropolitan Statistical Areas: Preliminary March 2026 unemployment rates decreased in all 13 metropolitan areas over the month. Rates increased in all 13 metropolitan areas over the year.
• Municipalities: Preliminary March 2026 unemployment rates decreased in 30 of Wisconsin's 35 largest cities over the month. Rates increased in two cities and stayed the same in the remaining three cities. Unemployment rates decreased in one city over the year: Superior. Rates increased in the remaining 34 cities over the year.
• Counties: Preliminary March 2026 unemployment rates decreased in 65 counties over the month. Rates increased in six counties over the month and stayed the same in one county: Douglas. Unemployment rates increased in 62 counties over the year. Rates decreased in nine counties over the year and stayed the same in one county: Vilas.
