On Tuesday, January 13rd, Minister of National Defence, Radu Miruță, had a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiyeto Romania, H.E. Özgür Kıvanç Altan, at the Ministry of National Defence headquarters.
The talks reconfirmed the very good level of the Romanian-Turkish dialogue in the field of defence, while Minister Radu Miruțǎ emphasized the importance of continuing joint projects at political-military level and the outstanding results achieved to date.
During the meeting, the officials highlighted the efficient cooperation between NATO allies bordering the Black Sea - Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey - through the Naval Mine Countermeasures Task Group (MCM Black Sea TG), an initiative that directly contributes to enhancing maritime security in the region.
The two officials also discussed the increase of bilateral defence cooperation, with emphasis on joint participation in multinational exercises and activities. Minister Miruță highlighted, in this context, the role of the Romanian-Turkish technical-military partnership, appreciating both the experience and technological capacity of the Turkish defence industry, as well as the involvement of Turkish companies in the Romanian Armed Forces' procurement programs.
"Romania appreciates the solid cooperation with Türkiyein the field of defence and the valuable contribution of this strategic partner to the implementation of deterrence and defence measures in the Black Sea region. We want to enhance collaboration, including in the technical-military field," Minister Radu Miruță said.
The Romanian official reaffirmed Romania's commitment to closely monitor security developments in the region and to actively support initiatives that contribute to strengthening the defence and deterrence posture, both within NATO and bilateral and regional formats.
