Van Buren County Sheriff News Release - Platinum Motorsports donates 2 Jetski's to Marine Patrol

Narrative:

Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott reports that The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department Marine Division is excited to announce that they will have 2 brand new PWC's for South Haven this summer. Platinum Powersports in Coloma has loaned the personal watercraft to the department through the Yamaha Law Loan Program. The PWCs will be stationed in South Haven, where their primary use will be for law enforcement patrol and water rescue. The South Haven Elks Club #1509 has also made a $500 donation to the marine division to purchase a PWC rescue board that attaches to the back of the jet ski to assist pulling victims out of the water. PWC's are unique in a way that allows deputies to respond faster, safer and get into shallower areas that the regular patrol boats cannot go. Last summer, 5 lives were saved by the marine division right off of South Beach. Deputies plan to provide extra patrols in this area during the summer, keeping a watchful eye as people enjoy our beautiful beaches. Sheriff Abbott thanks Platinum Powersports and the South Haven Elks Club for their support and reminds people to always wear a life jacket and practice safety when enjoying our waters.
