UAA's Alaska SBDC SSBCI program tops the nation in fund deployment, driving local investment and business growth

The Alaska Small Business Development Center (SBDC), housed at the University of Alaska Anchorage, is proud to announce a major milestone: its Alaska SSBCI (State Small Business Credit Initiative) program has been ranked #1 in the nation for funds deployed as a percentage of total allocation.

Out of 131 programs nationwide, Alaska deployed an impressive 92.5% of its allocated funds, narrowly edging out Montana at 92.3% and far surpassing New Hampshire at 79.8%. Launched in fall 2022, Alaska's SSBCI program has already operated at a pace six years ahead of schedule.

This achievement represents more than just numbers. It reflects over $100 million invested directly into Alaskan businesses and communities, from small startups opening their doors for the first time to established companies expanding operations, hiring more workers, and strengthening local neighborhoods. Each SSBCI-backed loan, made in partnership with community lenders, tells a story of opportunity: opening the doors to the first fast-food chain opening in a rural hub, aircraft purchased to connect communities, a beloved local theater brought back to life, and a construction company growing to meet the needs of its region. Together, these deals create jobs, circulate dollars locally and help Alaska's economy grow from the ground up.

Since the program's launch, Alaska SBDC's SSBCI team has worked tirelessly to connect businesses with the capital they need to succeed. The state's nation-leading deployment rate demonstrates both the strong demand from local entrepreneurs and the effectiveness of the program in getting funds quickly into the hands of those who need them. These investments ripple through communities supporting jobs, spurring innovation, and building economic resilience across Alaska.

Alaska's #1 ranking underscores the state's commitment to investing in its people and small businesses. The SSBCI program isn't just about federal dollars deployed; it's about empowering Alaskans to turn ideas into thriving enterprises and ensuring communities across the state continue to grow and prosper.

Strengthening Alaska's small business sector is one of the surest ways to build resilience against outside economic pressures and drive lasting growth here at home. As the state's engine of innovation and change, small businesses are at the heart of our economy.

The Alaska Small Business Development Center and its programs remain dedicated to helping them access funding, navigate growth, and maximize their impact, proving once again that Alaska is a leader in fueling entrepreneurial success.
