Pensions for Armed Forces reservists

If you are a BDA member with a period of paid service as an Armed Forces reservist between July 2000 and March 2015, you could be entitled to backdated pension scheme membership

A recent employment tribunal case (Milroy v Ministry of Defence) found that the Ministry had discriminated against part-time workers by excluding Armed Forces reservists from the Armed Forces Pension Schemes between July 2000 and March 2015.

If you are a BDA member with a period of paid service as a Forces reservist any time between these dates, this judgement could mean that you are entitled to backdated pension scheme membership to the (non-contributory) Armed Forces Pension Schemes.

Members who wish to make an appeal for such backdated membership via the Armed Forces Service Complaint route should contact us at [email protected]by Thursday 31 October, and we will provide you with text to include in your appeal.

The deadline for lodging an appeal is anticipated to be 5 November 2024. Please also note that the judgement may be appealed by the MoD.
