Communication and broadcasting play a vital role in strengthening identity and preserving culture as well as delivering the policy and aspirations of the government to the people, Acting Deputy Director of Radio Television Brunei (RTB) (Development) Zulkarnain bin Haji Brahim said. He said this during the launch of RTB's new TV visual presentation and the renaming of Studio 4 to Golden Jubilee TV Studio at Studio 4 of RTB Broadcasting Complex in Kampong Sungai Akar on 9 July 2025, held in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee celebration of Brunei Television Services.
"Five decades ago in 1975, television broadcast nationwide was officially launched by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam," he added. He outlined RTB's journey over the years, from analog to digital transmission and broadcasting across multiple platforms. As chair of the Golden Jubilee celebration, Zulkarnain also highlighted RTB's continuous efforts to enhance the quality of its programmes.
"RTB's transformation is not only technological changes, it is also in line with Brunei Vision 2035," he said. He added that RTB faced numerous challenges, including during the COVID-19 pandemic when it played a vital role while the community was restricted from movement. The guest of honour was Deputy Minister (Civil Service Governance) at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Dato Seri Paduka Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos. Also present were Acting Permanent Secretary (Civil Service Governance) at the PMO Pengiran Haji Raffizanna bin Pengiran Haji Razali and Acting Director of RTB Cheong Chee Keong.
