This one-day awareness-level training course aims to increase the awareness of the meaningful actions that a community can take to enhance resilience to natural hazards and opportunities to incorporate these actions into professional practice. The course will introduce concepts and practices for building community resilience to natural hazards. Building community resilience requires a Whole Community Approach engaging the full capacity of the private and nonprofit sectors, including nongovernmental organizations and the general public, in conjunction with the participation of federal, state, and local governmental partners.
Course Objectives
Conduct a natural hazards risk assessment
Identify the components of community resilience and benefits of building resilience in all community systems
Identify and act on community resilience concepts and practices that can be instituted in their communities.
This is a dual registration course. Students must register with UH-NDPTC.
