Time to recognise Richmond Valley’s unsung heroes

THE 2027 Richmond Valley Australia Day Award nominations are now open, allowing the community to recognise those who make the Richmond Valley the best place to live.

Nominating someone for an Australia Day Award is a chance to acknowledge the unsung heroes of our community and celebrate their selfless and valuable contributions.

Awards are offered in the following categories: Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year; Volunteer and Young Volunteer of the Year; and Sportsperson and Young Sportsperson of the Year. Awards will also be made for Community Organisation of the Year and Sporting Team of the Year.

Deputy Mayor Steve Morrissey said the Australia Day Awards were an opportunity to shine a light on the people who quietly make a difference across the Richmond Valley.

Cr Morrisey said every community has people whose efforts often go unnoticed and deserve recognition.

"Across the Richmond Valley there are people who give their time, lend a hand and make life better for others without expecting anything in return. The Australia Day Awards are our chance to recognise those contributions and say thank you," Cr Morrisey said.

"If you know someone who's making a difference in your community, whether through volunteering, sport, community service or simply helping others, I encourage you to nominate them.

"A nomination can mean a great deal to someone who has spent years putting others first."

Nominations close on 30 November 2026. Next year's ceremony will be held on Australia Day, 26 January.

Nominations can be made on the Richmond Valley Council website at https://richmondvalley.nsw.gov.au/community-services/australia-day/
