Citizen Public Safety Academy

Cedar Falls Public Safety is inviting the community to learn more about the vital role of police and fire/EMS operations during the Citizen Public Safety Academy. The academy consists of six sessions total and will be held every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. starting February 6 through March 13, 2025.

The public can register to participate in the academy at bit.ly/CFPSAcademy. The academy is open to those who are at least 18 years of age and live or work in Cedar Falls. The event is limited to a capacity of 20 attendees. Preregistration is required to attend.

During the academy, participants will be exposed to aspects of both police and fire operations including defensive tactics, taser and less lethal, firefighting equipment, and vehicle extrication. The academy will also include a K9 demonstration and crime scene processing exercises. Each evening provides a different topic, so participants are expected to attend all six sessions.

"The goal of the program is for the community to better understand the importance of police and fire/EMS operations including its part in the safety and security of our city," said Cedar Falls Lieutenant Gavin Carman. "This is a hands-on training opportunity for those who want to learn more about our department. It is also an opportunity to connect with our citizens and enhance communication, foster trust, and continue to build a positive partnership."
