APPOINTMENT OF NEW HEADS OF DIPLOMATIC MISSION OF MALAYSIA
His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim had presented the Letters of Credence to seven (7) new Heads of the Diplomatic Mission of Malaysia during a ceremony held at Istana Negara today. The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dato' Sri Amran bin Mohamed Zin. The newly appointed Heads of Diplomatic Mission are:
Datuk Wan Zaidi bin Wan Abdullah
Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Thailand
Datuk Wan Zaidi hails from Johor and graduated in Town and Regional Planning from Dundee University, Scotland. He was appointed as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994. Prior to this appointment, he was the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since 2022.
He served as the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Sri Lanka (2016-2018) and Consul General of Malaysia in Mumbai, India (2007-2011). He had also been posted to Malaysian diplomatic missions in London, United Kingdom; Tripoli, Libya; and Madrid, Spain. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he held the positions of Chief of Protocol, Deputy Chief of Protocol (Ceremonial), Director at Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), Deputy Head of ASEAN 2015 Main Logistics Secretariat, and had assignments at Department of Multilateral Affairs.
Dato' Syed Mohamad Bakri bin Syed Abdul Rahman
Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Dato' Syed Mohamad Bakri hails from Kedah and holds a Master's in Public Management from National University of Singapore and a BBA in Economics from Texas Technical University, United States of America (USA). He was appointed as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Undersecretary of Special Functions since June 2025.
Previously, he was the Ambassador of Malaysia to Kazakhstan (2017-2023). He served as the Consul General of Malaysia in New York, USA (2011-2014) and Consul General of Malaysia in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (2007). He had also been posted to Malaysian diplomatic missions in Bangkok, Thailand; Rome, Italy; and Harare, Zimbabwe. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he served as Director General of Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), Undersecretary of Southeast Asia Division, and Undersecretary of South and Central Asia Division. Other assignments were at the Department of Policy Planning, West Asia and North Africa Division, and Americas Division.
Dato' Yubazlan bin Yusof
High Commissioner-designate of Malaysia to the Republic of South Africa
Dato' Yubazlan was born in Kelantan and holds a Master's in International Relations (Peace Study) from Hiroshima University, Japan and a BBA in Finance from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia. He was appointed as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. Prior to this appointment, he was the Chief of Protocol since 2024.
He served as the Ambassador of Malaysia to Azerbaijan (2019-2022) and Consul General of Malaysia in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) (2016-2019). He had also been posted to Malaysian diplomatic missions in Belgrade, Serbia and Lima, Peru. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he held the positions of Undersecretary of Americas Division, and Undersecretary of Communication and Public Diplomacy Division. He also had assignments at the Inspectorate Division, Human Resource Management Division and Development Division.
Dato' Mohammad Ali bin Selamat
Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to the Federative Republic of Brazil
Dato' Mohammad Ali hails from Johor and holds a Master of Political Science in International Relations from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Universiti Malaya. He was appointed as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. Before this appointment, he was the Undersecretary of the Consular Division since 2023.
Previously, he was the Ambassador of Malaysia to the State of Kuwait (2018-2023) and Consul General of Malaysia in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (2015-2018). He had also been posted to the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei and Malaysian diplomatic missions in Zagreb, Croatia and Rabat, Morocco. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was assigned to the Consular Division, West Asia and North Africa Division, and the Development Division.
Ambassador Mohamad Razdan bin Jamil
Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to the Federal Republic of Germany
Ambassador Mohamad Razdan was born in Selangor and holds an LLB from University of Newcastle, United Kingdom. He was appointed as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. Prior to this assignment, he served as the Undersecretary of the West Asia Division since 2024.
He was the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Sudan (2018-2023) and had been posted to Malaysian diplomatic missions in Paris, France; Jakarta (ASEAN), Indonesia; The Hague, Netherlands; and Berlin, Germany.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he served as Deputy Director General at Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter Terrorism (SEARCCT), and had assignments at Department of Policy Planning and Strategy, Human Rights and Social Division, Multilateral Political and Security Division, and Office of Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Haznah binti Md Hashim
Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Spain
Ambassador Haznah was born in Negeri Sembilan and holds an LLM in International Law from Liverpool University, United Kingdom and an LLB from Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom. She was appointed as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer in 2000 and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001. Prior to this assignment, she was the Undersecretary of Americas Division since 2024.
She was the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Bangladesh (2020-2024) and had been posted to Malaysian diplomatic missions in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam and Washington D.C., USA. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she served as the Undersecretary of the Multilateral Economic and Environmental Division, Communication and Public Diplomacy Division and Deputy Director General at the Department of Maritime Affairs. She also had been assigned to the Administration and Security Division, and Research, Treaty and International Law Division.
Dato' Azri bin Mat Yacob
Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to the Republic of Poland
Dato' Azri hails from Johor and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia. He was appointed as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001. Before this appointment, he was the Ambassador of Malaysia to Lebanon since 2021.
Previously, he held the position of the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo, Japan and served at Malaysian diplomatic missions in Dili, Timor-Leste and Rabat, Morocco. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he served as the Undersecretary of Communication and Public Diplomacy Division and had been assigned to the Socio-Cultural Community Division, ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat, Protocol Division, and West Asia and North Africa Division.
