President Xi Jinping’s Remarks at the Reception Marking the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China

Ladies and Gentlemen, Comrades and Friends,

We gather together happily today to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. At the outset, on behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, I wish to extend festive greetings to the Chinese people of all ethnic groups, to members of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and Armed Police, and to all other political parties and public figures without party affiliation! I wish to extend sincere greetings to our compatriots in the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions and Taiwan and those residing abroad! I also wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to all countries and foreign friends who have long shown understanding for and supported China in its development endeavors!

Over the past 76 years since the founding of New China, under the leadership of our Party, the Chinese people have, through self-reliance and unrelenting efforts, made remarkable achievements that will be etched in history as landmarks. As we look back, we cannot but marvel at the great journey the Chinese nation has traversed from facing existential crisis to great rejuvenation. It is a journey full of challenges and hardships, but it is also a forward march with confidence that leads China from one victory to another. Earlier this month, we solemnly commemorated the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. It has greatly boosted our national morale, fueled the passion for our country, and inspired our people to forge ahead. We should keep drawing inspirations from the past, develop our country better, and ensure even greater success in our cause pioneered by the older generations of leaders and our fallen revolutionary heroes.

Comrades and Friends,

Since the beginning of this year, in the face of complex developments, we have deepened reform across the board, taken solid steps to pursue high-quality development, endeavored to ensure and improve people's well-being, and further exercised full and rigorous self-governance of the Party. New achievements have been made in all the endeavors of the Party and the country.

Next month, our Party will convene the Fourth Plenary Session of its 20th Central Committee to consider and adopt the recommendations for formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan. We should keep in mind the Party's central task on the new journey of the new era, ensure the adoption and implementation of the objectives, tasks, and strategic initiatives for the 15th Five-Year Plan, and achieve decisive progress in basically realizing socialist modernization.

As we advance on the new journey, we should resolutely implement the policy of One Country, Two Systems, and support Hong Kong and Macao in better integrating themselves into the country's overall development, delivering even better economic performance and improving people's well-being. We should deepen cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation, resolutely oppose separatist activities for "Taiwan independence" and external interference, and resolutely safeguard China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

As changes in the world not seen in a century accelerate, we should vigorously champion the common values of humanity, and practice true multilateralism. We should continue to implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative and, together with all other countries, strive to build a community with a shared future for humanity.

Comrades and Friends,

The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is a great cause that has no precedent to follow. Expectations and challenges will inspire us to press on with a sense of urgency and perseverance. Let us rally even more closely around the Party Central Committee, forge ahead with enterprise and resolve, and write an even more splendid chapter in realizing Chinese modernization.
