The Lake County Sheriff's Office is alerting residents that often there is a correlation between the weather change and an increase in ruse burglaries reported in our communities. These incidents involve individuals posing as service workers, delivery personnel, or other trusted figures to gain access to homes. Once inside, the suspects distract homeowners while accomplices steal valuables such as jewelry, cash, and electronics. The Village of Deer Park, known for its peaceful neighborhoods, is not immune to these deceptive tactics, and we urge residents to remain vigilant to protect themselves and their property.
To stay safe, please verify the identity of anyone claiming to provide a service before allowing them into your home-contact the company they claim to represent using a verified phone number, not one provided by the individual. Be cautious of unsolicited visitors, even if they appear legitimate, and never leave strangers unattended in your home. If you notice suspicious behavior, such as unfamiliar vehicles or individuals loitering in the area, contact the Lake County Sheriff's Office immediately at (847) 549-5200. Together, we can keep our community secure by staying alert and reporting anything out of the ordinary.
