Staffordshire residents can grab a bargain and support community groups at recycling events

Posted on Friday 12th September 2025

People in Staffordshire can grab a household bargain and support a community group or charity at the same time at a series of pop-up sales events run by the county council.

At all of Staffordshire's household waste recycling centres, good quality reusable items are donated to county charities, care leavers who are setting up a new home or sold at one of the Rescue Me pop-up sales.

People can pick up a wide variety of bargains of items including kitchenware, toys, books, sports equipment and more. All money raised goes directly to a local charity or community organisation in the area the pop-up sale takes place.

The sales are held by the county council's waste management team, which also supports Repair Café events in Staffordshire where people can bring their own items to be repaired and socialise with other attendees.

The next Rescue Me pop-up sales take place on:

  • Friday 19 September from 10am to 2pm at Rugeley Library, 12 Anson Street, Rugeley, WS15 2BB supporting St John Ambulance
  • Saturday 20 September from 2pm to 5pm at Lichfield Repair & Share Cafe, Curborough Community Centre, Curborough, WS13 7NY with Lichfield Repair & Share Cafe
  • Saturday 27 September from 10am to 2pm at Moorlands Repair Cafe, Foxlowe Arts Centre, Stockwell Street, Leek, ST13 6AD, supporting Borderland Voices

A Burton Repair-Cafe event also takes place on Saturday 27 September at the workshop behind Pinocchios & Escape Time, High Street, Burton, from 9am to midday.

Andrew Mynors, Staffordshire County Council's cabinet member for connectivity who oversees waste management, said:

Our Rescue Me pop-up events are a great place for people to pick up a bargain and support the invaluable work of one of our community organisations or charities.

Many of the items brought to our household waste recycling centres are of good quality and can be put to good use. Anyone attending one of the sales events can save money, reduce waste and help others.

This is another example of how our teams work with our communities on a daily basis in addition to providing our key services."

The waste management team gives talks to community organisations how Staffordshire County Council is enabling more reuse whilst supporting local communities and charities. Anyone interested should email: [email protected]
