Durbin, Duckworth, Kelly Announce More Than $2.6 Million In Federal Funding For Greater Kankakee Airport

CHICAGO - U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and U.S. Representative Robin Kelly (D-IL-02) today announced $2,658,742 in federal funding for infrastructure improvements at Greater Kankakee Airport (IKK).

This funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration will rehabilitate 8,552 feet of existing paved Taxiway A at IKK to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize foreign object debris.

"By improving airport infrastructure, we are laying the foundation for increased connectivity and reliability," said Durbin. "This federal funding for Greater Kankakee Airport will upgrade infrastructure and make travel safer and more efficient for Illinoisans. I will continue working with Senator Duckworth and Representative Kelly to ensure our state's regional airports have the necessary federal resources."

"Investing in our airport infrastructure is vital to the strength of our state's transportation systems and our local economies," Duckworth said. "This funding to the Greater Kankakee Airport will help enhance safety and operations, and I'll keep working with Senator Durbin and Congresswoman Kelly to advocate for important federal resources so the airport can continue expanding service and support good-paying jobs for hardworking Illinoisans."

"I'm thrilled for the Greater Kankakee Airport and its community," said Kelly. "These funds will go toward better infrastructure, ensuring safer travel. I'm proud to have worked with Senators Durbin and Duckworth to invest in the Second District and bring back federal resources."
