On 7 January 2026, Ambassador of China to Kuwait Yang Xin paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Sameeh Essa Johar Hayat, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two sides also co-chaired a meeting to advance the implementation of China-Kuwait bilateral cooperation documents.

Ambassador Yang stated that China and Kuwait enjoy a long-standing traditional friendship and that bilateral relations have maintained steady and sustained growth over the past 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. As the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait, he expressed his willingness to work closely with the Kuwaiti side to ensure the effective implementation of the bilateral cooperation documents signed under the witness of the two heads of state, further deepen political mutual trust, promote practical cooperation, and deliver greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.

Ambassador Sameeh welcomed Ambassador Yang on his assumption of office and noted that Kuwait attaches great importance to developing relations with China. He expressed Kuwait's readiness to work with China to actively implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, accelerate the advancement of bilateral cooperation projects, and promote greater development of Kuwait-China relations.

The Chinese Embassy in Kuwait and the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs have established a weekly meeting mechanism dedicated to promoting the implementation of a series of bilateral cooperation documents signed under the witness of President Xi Jinping and the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah (then Crown Prince).
