With a magazine editor's touch, strong news instincts and an easy storyside manner, Megan has become a valuable part of several newsroom teams. Now we're pleased to announce the next step in her Times career, as a senior editor on the Trust team.
As the A2-A3 editor on the Print Hub, Megan led a reimagining of those pages and raised the quality and engagement of Times Insider coverage for both print and digital audiences. She has also edited several projects for the Local Investigations Fellowship program and has filled in as an editor on Well for the past six months.
"She's a terrific manager, highly organized with a smart news sense, a spidey feel for sensitive moments and a great sense of humor," said Tom Jolly, the associate manager who oversees print.
Kate Lowenstein, the deputy editor of Well, called Megan an outstanding addition to her desk. "We've relied on her for her excellent news sense, sharp editing and unmatched ability to mastermind even the most unwieldy of reporting projects with nothing more than a Google doc and her unwavering good humor," she said.
Now, Megan will work with us and Seth Carlson on Trust to build on the inside-the-journalism work of Reporter Videos, "The Daily," The Morning, Times Insider and more. She will help us lead initiatives that show and explain how The Times works. We want to help audiences better understand the value of reporting and the nature of independent journalism, and to buttress and elevate the reputation and credibility of The Times. We'll do this through features and Q&As; explainers that aim to build confidence in our journalism; newsletters, video and audio; the development of playbooks and training to fortify trust work and independence in our journalistic practices; and efforts to reach new audiences off platform.
This is a critical moment for trust in what we do. Our online lives are awash in A.I. slop. Influencers and partisan news sources bombard our feeds. Americans' confidence in the news media has been declining for years. Though we've found that many people trust the accuracy and newsgathering of The Times, they also say they want to better understand the why and how of what we do. Megan is most definitely up to the challenge.
Along with her move to Trust, Megan will also continue to work with Local Investigations - much to the relief and benefit of that team. "It's been a privilege to work with Megan, who brings a genuine humility and commitment to her work," said Sona Patel, the fellowship's program and editorial director. "She's rigorous, thoughtful and a fierce advocate for our journalists and the public's trust."
Megan joined The Times in 2021 after a successful run as senior editor of features and special projects at Marie Claire. Her package Invasion of Privacy was awarded a 2021 National Magazine Award and appeared in "The Best American Magazine Writing" 2021 anthology. Additionally, she programmed Marie Claire's annual Power Trip summit.
Her writing has appeared in Cosmopolitan, Men's Health, Runner's World, Baltimore magazine, Philadelphia magazine, Elle, Harper's Bazaar and more. She holds a bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University, where she also ran competitive track.
Megan grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia. She lives with her husband in Brooklyn, where she still runs, slowly, and is studying Italian.
Please join us in congratulating her.
