Osage Nation Commends Mullin: “consistently proven to be a strong advocate for tribal sovereignty”

Tulsa, O.K. - Today, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) traveled to Pawhuska, Oklahoma to sit down with Osage Nation and Osage County leadership as part of a busy in-state work period. During the visit, Senator Mullin spoke with local officials about their goals to widen growth opportunities and deepen Tribal partnerships. In attendance at the meeting were Osage County Sheriff Bart Perrier, Osage Nation Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear, Pawhuska Mayor Steve Tolson, Pawhuska City Manager Carol Jones, Barnsdall Mayor Johnny Kelley, Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce members, and other community leaders.

After Senator Mullin shared a few updates from Washington, D.C., the group discussed how Senator Mullin can assist Osage County with permitting challenges and efforts to strength rural America. He also answered questions on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the U.S. Department of Education, and the future of the beef industry in Oklahoma.

"Osage County benefits from strong relationships among state and Tribal leaders who all want to see a stronger Oklahoma," said Senator Mullin. "Tribal sovereignty, economic self-determination, and strong local governance make a big difference. Pawhuska has successfully grown their downtown over recent years, and the Cavalcade Rodeo continues to welcome an economic boom each year. I'm glad I got to see the new streetscape project while I'm in town, as well as the new county building which brings Osage officials and the District Attorney together in one place. Thank you to everybody who joined our important conversation."

"My relationship with Senator Markwayne Mullin has grown over the years, and he has consistently proven to be a strong advocate for tribal sovereignty," said Osage Nation Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear. "Senator Mullin understands the unique co-governing relationship Tribal Nations share with state and federal governments, and he is a strong voice for collaboration that benefits everyone who resides within our territory. From critical water infrastructure to oil and gas matters, these are significant issues impacting our Nation and our neighbors alike. Senator Mullin recognizes that we are stronger when we work together, and his visit today reflects his hands-on commitment to serving all Oklahomans. We deeply appreciate his time, attention, and support, and we look forward to further strengthening our relationship."
