Governor Ayotte Celebrates Opening of New Housing in Somersworth

CONCORD, NH - On Wednesday, Governor Kelly Ayotte joined representatives from PROCON and the town of Somersworth to celebrate the opening of a new housing complex.

The site was previously a vacant garage and a former General Electric overflow parking area and is now home to 135 units of housing geared toward New Hampshire's growing workforce, including shipyard employees, healthcare professionals, and local business workers.

"I'm pleased to see PROCON bring much-needed housing to the Seacoast with the opening of The Overlook," said Governor Ayotte. "We need to continue working to bring more housing of all forms to our state, especially for our young people and our workforce. By making sure our new laws work as they should and partnering with the private sector, we'll keep New Hampshire growing."

In 2025, Governor Ayotte signed the most ambitious set of housing reforms in state history.

These efforts included:

  • Cutting outdated regulations
  • Streamlining the State permitting process to ensure state government does not unnecessarily delay construction
  • Expanding opportunities for accessory dwelling units
  • Enabling the conversion of underutilized commercial properties into housing
  • Directing state agencies to review land owned by the State that is no longer needed and determine whether it can be responsibly used for housing

Recent data from the Department of Business and Economic Affairs showed housing construction reached its highest level in 20 years.
