WASHINGTON, D.C. - National Parks Conservation Association, Sierra Club, and partner organizations will host an event titled "Defending National Parks from the Erasure of History" on Thursday, March 5, at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C. The event is the official kickoff for the National Parks Cultural Resources Coalition.

Gerry James, deputy director of the Sierra Club's Outdoors For All campaign, will speak on one of the event panels. The panel, titled "America 250 and Beyond", will discuss the bipartisan federal initiative to celebrate America's 250th anniversary, the spotlight on national parks and historical sites as part of that initiative, and the ongoing threats from Trump's executive orderon "restoring truth and sanity to American history". Critics of the order say it whitewashes and sanitizes history on public lands by removing factual references to climate change, slavery, LGBTQ+ history, and Native American history.

WHAT: "Defending National Parks from the Erasure of History" event hosted by National Parks Conservation Association, Sierra Club, and partner organizations. The event will feature two panel discussions: one on defending historical integrity at national parks and one on the America 250 initiative.
