A convicted felon is jailed this morning on $26,000 bond after he was arrested by Violent Crimes Division detectives for driving a stolen vehicle with a loaded handgun inside. Detectives, with assistance from MNPD Aviation, observed a 2016 Volvo XC-90 that was stolen earlier this month, with a temporary tag that did not match the vehicle, parking on 31st Avenue North.
The driver of the Volvo, Kejarius Dejuan Lawrence, 27, was taken into custody. He was convicted in 2021 of evading arrest in Coffee County.
A loaded Glock handgun was recovered from the driver's side floorboard.
In an interview with detectives, Lawrence admitted he knew the Volvo was stolen when he purchased it this weekend.
Lawrence was charged with vehicle theft, being a felon in possession of a weapon and altering the license plate.
