Advisory Detail
What: The Adopt-a-Storm Drain Earth Month event will help residents learn about and sign up for the City of San José's Adopt-a-Storm Drain program.
When: Saturday, April 11, 2026
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Where: Penitencia Creek Park
Viceroy Way & Penitencia Creek Rd., San José
Who: This event is presented by the City of San José's Environmental Services Department.
Background: First launched as a pilot program on Earth Day 2024, the Adopt-a-Storm Drain program has since expanded citywide and now includes more than 100 residents, schools and community groups who have signed up to reduce trash entering local waterways and prevent neighborhood flooding by keeping storm drains clear.

Events like these are part of the City's efforts to reduce debris and pollutants entering the waterways, a requirement to comply with stormwater permit regulations.

Volunteers will receive tools and training on cleaning a storm drain, have the opportunity to name their drain, and submit data to help measure the impact of their efforts.

This free, family-friendly event will include onsite signups to adopt a storm drain, storm drain cleanup demonstrations, interactive watershed learning activities for all ages, and information from the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) about their efforts to protect wildlife from being injured by storm drains.
