City Attorney Wes Duncan Announces Domestic Battery Convictions

The Sparks City Attorney's Office has announced that its prosecutor secured convictions against Jeremy Owens for two counts of Domestic Battery, second offense, stemming from two separate incidents that occurred on August 16, 2024, and January 21, 2026, against the same victim.

On August 16, 2024, Sparks Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance and spoke with the victim on scene. The victim reported that Owens, her husband, became aggressive when the victim questioned his sobriety. The victim disclosed a history of violence when Owens was under the influence and reported Owens was previously convicted of Domestic Battery where she was the victim.

When the victim tried to take their son, Owens prevented her from doing so by kicking her, grabbing her by the shirt, and attempting to remove her from the house. The victim provided law enforcement photographs of her injuries, which included scratches on her back and neck.

Law enforcement was unable to locate Owens and submitted a bench warrant for his arrest, which was issued by the Sparks Municipal Court on September 24, 2024.

On January 21, 2026, dispatch received a call from the victim's mother that the victim had been involved in a domestic battery with Owens. When law enforcement arrived, they observed fresh blood on the victim's nose and sweatshirt and a small cut inside her nostril. The victim was present with her three children and advised law enforcement Owens had left on foot.

The victim disclosed to law enforcement that Owens became defensive when she asked to review his phone for suspicion of infidelity. In response, Owens caused property damage (kicking open a bedroom door and punching doors), began throwing items at the victim, shoved the victim, causing her to fall backwards, and then dragged her by the shirt.

On January 23, 2026, law enforcement located and arrested Owens.

On February 11, 2026, a prosecutor with the Sparks City Attorney's Office secured two convictions for Domestic Battery, second offense, against Owens.

"The Sparks City Attorney's Office will continue to aggressively prosecute crimes of domestic violence and stand up to defendants who use physical violence against their partners, especially in the presence of children," said Sparks City Attorney Wes Duncan.

As a result of the convictions, a Sparks Municipal Court Judge rendered the following sentence:
Owens will serve the maximum term of 180 days active in the Washoe County Jail for the August 16, 2024, Domestic Battery. Thereafter, Owens will serve the maximum term of 180 days in the Washoe County Jail suspended not to exceed two years, consecutive to his other conviction, on the condition that he be placed on formal probation with Sparks Municipal Court to include regular testing for drugs and alcohol, serve 20 days of house arrest, complete 100 hours of community service, pay a $500 fine plus administrative assessments, pay a $35 domestic violence fee, complete 52 weeks of domestic violence classes, have no contact with the victim consistent with family court orders, and that he obey all laws. Owens was also ordered to surrender all firearms in his possession.
