AUGUSTA, GA (December 29, 2025) - With temperatures expected to drop into the low 30s tonight, the City of Augusta has activated warming shelters to ensure the safety and well-being of residents during the extreme cold.
Shelter Access Requirements: Individuals seeking overnight shelter must obtain a shelter clearance before 5:00 PM. Visit the Richmond County Sheriff's Office Records Bureau in person.After 5:00 PM: Contact the Sheriff's Office Dispatcher at 706-821-1080. A deputy will be dispatched to provide the necessary documentation.
Transportation to Overnight Warming Shelters
Augusta Transit will provide complimentary transportation to designated overnight warming shelters between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM. To arrange transportation, please call 706-821-1719 before 8:00 PM.

Drop-Off Locations
· Augusta Rescue Mission - 526 Walker Street (Route #3 - Gold Line / East Augusta)
· Garden City Rescue Mission - 828 Fenwick Street (Route #6 - Brown Line / Gordon Highway)
· Salvation Army Center of Hope - 1384 Greene Street (Route #3 - Gold Line / East Augusta)
· May Park Community Center- Check-In 5-9 PM
Daytime warming centers are listed at augustaga.gov. Residents may use Augusta Transit's normal routes during standard operating hours.
