BoulderMOD Receives Metro Vision Award
The City of Boulder, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity and the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) are proud to announce that BoulderMOD has been awarded a Metro Vision Award by the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG). Presented at the 2026 awards celebration at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, the Metro Vision Award recognizes excellence, innovation, collaboration, and leadership in problem-solving among communities and their partners.
BoulderMOD's unique partnership and innovative approach to addressing housing affordability stood out to award judges.
BoulderMOD is providing highly desirable affordable homeownership opportunities for individuals and families in Boulder County, allowing our neighbors to stay in our community. This partnership is a cost-effective way to increase the annual production by Habitat from 1-2 homes a year to 25-30 homes each year.
In addition to producing new homes, BoulderMOD is rebuilding the local construction workforce and fostering community ownership. By embedding construction trades training into BVSD's Apex technical education center Construction Trades program curriculum and inviting community members to volunteer in the homebuilding process through Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, BoulderMOD is advancing a shared model of workforce education and civic engagement. Homeowners work alongside volunteers in both the factory and on the final build sites, creating not just financial ownership, but emotional connection and pride through sweat equity.

About BoulderMOD
BoulderMOD is a unique partnership that brings modular homebuilding, workforce training and community volunteerism under one roof in the nation's first net-zero modular housing factory. The factory produces high-performance, permanently affordable homes on a predictable schedule, creating a local supply chain for modular homes that enables cost control, efficiency and reliability. Homes produced at BoulderMOD will contribute to the City of Boulder's goal of ensuring that 15% of all homes in Boulder are permanently affordable by 2035.
The City of Boulder constructed and equipped the factory; Flatirons Habitat serves as the certified manufacturer, overseeing operations, materials procurement, and coordination of volunteers, homeowners, and professional staff; and BVSD contributed land for the factory and integrated its Apex technical education center Construction Trades program, giving students real, hands-on experience building homes.
Inside the factory, volunteers, Flatirons Habitat staff and BVSD students work side by side across nine workstations doing everything from framing and electrical to cabinetry and final finishes. The model reduces construction waste, shortens build timelines and lowers costs, all while training the next generation of construction professionals right here in Boulder.
