A message from President Tarhule – federal court decision

The Office of the President distributed the following message to the campus community on August 4, 2026.

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

I am writing to provide information on a recent federal court decision that affects Illinois law governing tuition and financial aid eligibility. Illinois State University is required to comply with this decision.

I understand this ruling may create uncertainty and concern, especially for students and families directly affected. Please know that our top priority is to support our students as we carefully work through the details of this decision.

We are currently consulting with our state officials and legal counsel to determine what this decision means for affected students and the University. Students and families need timely information to make decisions as the fall semester approaches. We are committed to communicating promptly with impacted students as additional guidance becomes available.

I know that this situation is difficult, and we will continue to approach it with care, compassion, and a focus on supporting our students while meeting our legal obligations. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we navigate this evolving situation together.

Sincerely,

Aondover Tarhule, Ph.D.
President, Illinois State University
