Abacus President Talks MSP M&A at MSP Summit

Technology Reseller News published a podcast interview with Abacus Global President Jonathan Bohrer, recorded at the MSP Summit. Bohrer spoke about the state of MSP mergers and acquisitions today, what makes a deal work after it closes, and why he weighs a seller's culture as heavily as its financials.

Abacus has closed 15 acquisitions in about 15 years, with its headcount now approaching 1,000. In the interview, Bohrer discussed how he has watched that growth from different seats across the years: as an early hire at a company a fraction of its current size, founder who sold his own business, and now the buyer across the table. He noted that owners who open M&A conversations by asking about their staff, then their clients, tend to have built a business whose value survives the transaction, and those are the deals he most wants to do.

Bohrer also explained why Abacus folds every acquired organization under the firm rather than running a portfolio of separate brands. In his telling, culture and valuation are the same conversation: engaged employees keep clients happy, happy clients stay, and retention is what shows up in the numbers a buyer studies in diligence.

On AI, Bohrer took the view that its an opportunity to help MSPs deliver the same work faster and with fewer errors, rather than displacing employees.
