Traffic on Garden of the Gods Road, east of Interstate 25, will be reduced to one lane each direction this week as crews install new traffic signal poles at two intersections. The work is part of a City of Colorado Springs' intersection safety project expected to be completed in late March.
On Tuesday, March 3, eastbound traffic will narrow to one lane in the vicinity of Mark Dabling Boulevard and Northpark Drive as crews install new poles on the south side of the intersections. Then on Wednesday, March 4, crews will need to narrow westbound traffic to install new signal poles on the north sides of the intersections. Motorists are asked to use extra caution with heavy equipment, work vehicles and workers on foot in the area.
Motorists may want to choose alternative routes, if possible, to minimize travel delays.
The median and intersection improvement project on Garden of the Gods Road started in mid-October. Funding for the $1.96 million project comes from the Colorado Department of Transportation, with a local contribution from the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority.
