Security Benefit Gift

Topeka, Kan. - Washburn University announced today that Security Benefit has made a $500,000 gift to support planned renovations for Henderson Learning Resources Center, the largest academic building on the university's campus.

Henderson currently houses 25% of classrooms on campus, including the School of Business, nearly all College of Arts and Sciences' social science departments and a number of undergraduate courses for the School of Nursing. Additionally, it is home to the university's media labs.

"Washburn deeply values our strong partnership with Security Benefit as it supports our vision for a premier campus learning environment," said Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek, president, Washburn. "Renovations to this facility will impact almost every student at Washburn and provide optimal learning spaces equipped with leading-edge technology. Support for this project is vital in preparing our students for success while fueling the region's talent pipeline."

Following completion of building renovations, it will be known as Advisors Excel Hall, thanks to a lead gift made by the Topeka-based insurance and financial advisor marketing agency.

With a philanthropic focus on promoting education, among other initiatives, Security Benefit's Charitable Trust has long supported a wide range of programs at Washburn including the Washburn Women's Alliance, Ichabod Institute for Success, the Mulvane Art Fair, KTWU and more.

Doug Wolff, Security Benefit CEO, said, "We're excited to be part of the Advisors Excel Hall renovation that will enhance the learning environment for the future workforce. Our company has been a long-time supporter of Washburn University and benefitted greatly from its graduates. We've also had a long-time strategic and successful partnership with Advisors Excel to help people save for secure retirements. Our investment in this project complements our philanthropic commitment to education and our passion for workforce development."

Marshall Meek, president, Washburn University Alumni Association and Foundation, expressed his gratitude to Security Benefit for its longtime financial support of Washburn initiatives and programs

"Security Benefit consistently demonstrates a steadfast commitment to supporting exceptional learning opportunities for students," said Meek. "This gift is an outstanding addition to the Henderson building campaign, and we can't wait to bring this vision to life for Washburn students, faculty and staff."
