The President is travelling on a working visit to Italy and the Vatican

President Gitanas Nausėda is leaving for a working visit to the Italian Republic and the Vatican.

During the visit, the President and the First Lady will visit the Holy See and attend an audience with Pope Leo XIV. The President will also meet with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See.

In Rome, the President will meet with the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella. Their meeting will focus on bilateral relations between Lithuania and Italy, strengthening European defense, and support for Ukraine. Later, the President will deliver an opening address at the Lithuania-Italy Defense Industry Forum.

Together with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, Gitanas Nausėda will attend the inaugural concert of the Year of Lithuanian Culture in Italy, hosted at the Italian Presidential Palace and dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The 2025-2026 Lithuania Culture in Italy program will enhance Lithuania's visibility in Italy and foster closer ties between the two countries in the fields of economy, culture and education.

In the southern Italian city of Bari, President Nausėda will honor the memory of the Grand Duchess of Lithuania, Bona Sforza, at her burial site in the Basilica of Saint Nicholas. During his visit, the President will meet with representatives of the Apulia region, the Municipality of Bari and the Bari Castle Museum to discuss initiatives to present Bona Sforza and commemorate her legacy in Italy.
