Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Meets with Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue

On January 7, 2026, Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue visited Palestine. President Mahmoud Abbas met with Zhai Jun at the Presidential Palace in Ramallah, and the two sides exchanged views on China-Palestine relations, the Palestinian question, and other topics of mutual concern.

President Mahmoud Abbas said that the strategic partnership between Palestine and China is of great significance. Palestine highly appreciates the long-standing support of President Xi Jinping and the 1.4 billion friendly Chinese people for the Palestinian people's just cause, and commends China's efforts to promote internal reconciliation within Palestine. Palestine will continue to firmly support China's core concerns and China's great cause of reunification. Palestine supports the second China-Arab States Summit to be held in China this year, and believes that the successful hosting of the summit will further advance Arab-China cooperation. Palestine hopes to take the Gaza ceasefire as an opportunity to promote a political resolution to the Palestinian question, adding that the Palestinian Authority should effectively participate in the Gaza's post-conflict governance.

Zhai Jun said that China and Palestine enjoy a traditional friendship. Under the care and guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Mahmoud Abbas, China-Palestine relations have achieved leapfrog development. Regardless of changing circumstances, China will join all peace-loving and justice-supporting forces around the world in firmly supporting the Palestinian people's just cause. China will make active efforts to promote the comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian question at an early date on the basis of the two-State solution.

During his visit to Palestine, Special Envoy Zhai Jun also met with Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern.
