Human Rights Legal Scholar Joins Seton Hall Faculty

International law scholar Britta Redwood, J.D., has joined the University as an assistant professor at the School of Diplomacy and International Relations and at Seton Hall Law. Professor Redwood has a distinguished legal background and brings a depth of knowledge and professional experience to the University, including in international law, property law and human rights law.

Professor Redwood holds a J.D. from Yale University Law School where she was editor-in-chief of the Yale Journal of International Law. She earned her bachelor's degree in philosophy from Princeton University. Professor Redwood was formerly a visiting professor at Howard University School of Law, where she directed the Movement Lawyering Clinic and worked at the intersection of racial justice and human rights. She began her teaching career at New York University School of Law, where she was an acting assistant professor in the university's lawyering program.

Prior to teaching, Professor Redwood served as an attorney at the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR), where she worked  on cases involving universal jurisdiction for international criminal acts. She began her legal career as a litigation associate at the New York Office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP.

Courtney Smith, Ph.D., dean of the School of Diplomacy expressed his excitement about having Professor Redwood join the Seton Hall faculty. "We know that Britta's combination of real-world and clinical experience will enable her to engage students in policy-relevant learning activities in the public international law and international human rights courses that she will be teaching."

Professor Redwood is currently teaching an undergraduate course Human Rights Law and Policy and will also offer courses in the graduate program as part of the International Law and Human Rights specialization. She will begin teaching classes at the Law School beginning next spring.

Of her first weeks at Seton Hall, Professor Redwood said, "It has been a real pleasure to work with such engaged, curious students and to see students make connections between what we discuss in the classrooms and their interests or experiences outside of it. I also feel lucky to have been so warmly welcomed by new colleagues."
