Berkeleyans looking to develop job skills can apply for paid summer internships designed to help prepare people for careers.
These internships are geared for anyone who may be looking to develop early job skills that prepare for a career.
Berkeley residents facing socio-economic or educational barriers are encouraged to apply, including:
At a free career symposium on Feb. 17, you can hear from local employers and mentors who will explain hiring process and what they look for in new employees. Ask questions, meet employers, talk to past internship participants, and learn about paid internships.
These paid, part-time internships are provided through YouthWorks, a City of Berkeley workforce development program. The internships are paired with training and supervision to help people gain real work experience.
Attend the Feb. 17 event and submit your interest form for these summer internships between February 17 and March 27.
On February 17, attend a public panel to hear how local employers hire, train, and support new employees. Panelists will talk about career paths and workplace expectations. They will also discuss how early work experience shapes future opportunities.
The panel includes leaders from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the City of Berkeley, and Bridges from School to Work, a nonprofit dedicated to helping young adults with disabilities find meaningful jobs during and after they complete high school.
The panel will also include a YouthWorks participant.

Many entry-level workers lack access to paid jobs early in their career that build skills, confidence, and professional habits. YouthWorks fills this gap by offering paid, part-time internships paired with structured professional development.
Participants gain paid workplace experience in Berkeley while building skills for interviewing, communication, and time management.
YouthWorks prioritizes Berkeley residents who face barriers to early employment. Acceptance is limited by program capacity. An interest form does not guarantee placement.
YouthWorks staff will contact selected participants with next steps, such as interviews and details about onboarding. For questions, guidance, or personalized support, email [email protected]. Sign up for the YouthWorks newsletter to get program updates.
Come out on February 17 to meet employers and experts about developing your career. Then apply between February 17 and March 27 to be considered for these paid opportunities.
