License plate reader system helps clear missing person case

In early August, a woman living in another state called police after a family member in his late 30s failed to call and text as normal. He usually did this every few days. She provided information, including about his vehicle and Eugene Police added it to a missing person report.

On September 9, the missing family member still had not called her and she reported he still had not called and was not using the money that was normally sent him via a cash app. Eugene Police entered the vehicle into the license plate reader system and on September 13, received an alert associated with him. A short time later, an officer was able to spot the vehicle and when a man matching the missing family member got out in the 2800 block of Roosevelt Boulevard, he made contact. It turned out the man had lost his phone and was safe and healthy. He was planning to contact his family. Case 25-14109
