Tulsa Utility Customers May Opt In or Out of EMSAcare During Month of August

Each year in the month of August, Tulsa utility customers can choose to either enroll in or opt out of the EMSAcare program for the upcoming service year, which begins September 1.

From Aug. 1 through Aug. 31, customers can make their selection online anytime at https://www.cityoftulsa.org/apps/EMSACare. They can also make changes by calling the Customer Care Center at 311 or (918) 596-2100 (outside city limits), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or through the City's IVR system at any time.

EMSAcare is a subscription program offered by EMSA (Emergency Medical Services Authority). It covers the cost of emergency ambulance transport to a hospital emergency room for all permanent household members enrolled in the program. Whether subscribers have insurance or not, they pay no additional out-of-pocket costs-like co-pays or deductibles-for EMSA emergency ambulance services.

Customers who are already enrolled in EMSAcare do not need to do anything to stay enrolled. The EMSAcare fee of $5.45 will continue to be charged to their utility bill each month. To confirm enrollment, check your bill for a line item labeled "EMSA medical services."

For customers without EMSAcare, beginning on October 1, EMSAcare will update its transport rates and introduce a new "Treatment-in-Place" fee. This rate is for patients assessed and provided medical treatment but not transported to a hospital. Additionally, rates for ambulance transport will increase.

For emergency ambulance transport, EMSA will bill Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, or another third-party payer. That payment will be accepted as payment in full. If a patient is uninsured, EMSAcare will cover the full cost of eligible emergency transport.
