Earlier this year, we temporarily paused fish planting at Los Vaqueros out of caution due to the recent detection of invasive Golden Mussels in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. While these mussels have not been found at Los Vaqueros, preventing their introduction is a top priority. That's one of the key reasons personal watercraft are not permitted at the reservoir. Learn more about how we're monitoring and protecting our waterways.
The good news: fish planting resumed in March, and we're continuing to stock trout while water temperatures remain suitable. As conditions warm in the coming months, we'll transition to planting catfish to align with seasonal patterns. View recent fish planting updates.
You may also notice a gradual rise in water levels as the reservoir is filled. Be mindful of the changing shoreline - areas that were once walkable may become submerged, so it's important to stay alert and avoid entering the water, even in spots that seem familiar.
Whether you're a seasoned angler or just enjoying a day by the water, a little awareness goes a long way toward a safe and enjoyable visit.
