State Representative Gayle Manning (R-Avon) is pleased to share that Governor DeWine today announced that the City of Lorain will receive nearly $1 million through the Brownfield remediation grant.
Funding awarded through the Brownfield Remediation Program is used to assess and clean up industrial, commercial, and institutional brownfield sites that are abandoned, idled, or underutilized due to a known or potential release of hazardous substances or petroleum.
"This funding is much needed in the community," said Manning. "Because of initiatives like the Brownfield Remediation Program, the City of Lorain has more opportunities to expand, create jobs, and be a better place to live, work, and raise a family."
The City of Lorain is receiving $999,760 to safely install a sewer pumping system at an industrial site. This is essential for site readiness, which could lead to a major mixed-use redevelopment effort that could create up to 200 full-time jobs.
In the most recent State Operating Budget, Ohio House Republicans increased funding for the Brownfield Remediation Program to $100 million per fiscal year.
