Treasurer Roby Smith Highlights Great Iowa Treasure Hunt, ISave 529 and IAble at the Iowa State Fair

Whether you're searching for lost money, entering to win a $1,000 ISave 529 contribution or taking advantage of a more sensory-friendly fair experience, State Treasurer Roby Smith is encouraging Iowans to connect with the Treasurer's Office during the Iowa State Fair. Great Iowa Treasure Hunt and ISave 529 will once again welcome fairgoers in the Varied Industries Building, while IAble is proud to support the Iowa State Fair's annual Sensory-Friendly Morning.

"Many people come to the Iowa State Fair for the food, fun and family memories," said State Treasurer Smith. "For many, it's also a tradition to visit the Varied Industries Building and search their name or enter in the ISave 529 giveaway. Whether you discover your lost money or want to learn more about ISave 529, my staff and I will be happy to assist."

In addition to the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt and ISave 529 exhibits, IAble is once again a proud programming sponsor of the Iowa State Fair's Sensory-Friendly Morning on Wednesday, August 19, from 8 a.m. to noon. The event features thoughtful adjustments throughout the fairgrounds designed to create a more welcoming experience for individuals with sensory sensitivities and their families. What's going on at the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt Booth? The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt booth will give fairgoers the chance to search the state's unclaimed property database and if property is found, give them the ability to file a claim right on the spot. In addition, staff will be available in the booth to help answer questions and assist visitors through the claims process.

"During last year's fair, the average claim was about $200. If you went all-in and just purchased one item at the fair, it would snag you approximately 33 butter-dipped ice cream cones, 25 corn dogs, 22 pork chops on a stick or 20 hot beef sundaes," said State Treasurer Smith. "With 1 in 7 Iowans having property in Great Iowa Treasure Hunt, the odds you could have funds are pretty good, so start a search at GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov."

What's going on at the ISave 529 booth? Fairgoers can register to win a $1,000 contribution to an ISave 529 account while learning how Iowa's direct-sold college savings plan can help families prepare for future education expenses. Children are also invited to participate in ISave 529's annual Kid Survey, where they share what they want to be when they grow up, how much they think college will cost and their favorite thing about the Iowa State Fair.

"Every year, I'm happy to see Iowans and learn what they're saving for, especially when it comes to their education," said Treasurer Smith. "The State Fair gives us the perfect opportunity to connect with Iowa families from all 99 counties and help bring awareness to how they can strengthen a child's future."
