Remembering Charlie Kirk

Earlier today, my family and I joined President Trump and attended the memorial service for Charlie Kirk, who was horrifically slain last week by a radicalized, sick monster"deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology" while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University. Tens of thousands of people filled the State Farm Stadium in my district to pay their respects to Charlie. It was an incredibly touching and fitting service for a man who loved his country so much.

Charlie Kirk, like many Americans, knew that there was an undeniable correlation between the fringe politics being pushed by Democrats to radicalize people and their continued behavior of labelling anyone employing logic or skepticism as a "Nazi" or a "Fascist" which encouraged and led to the horrible murder that Charlie was to suffer. In fact, just this week, a mere eight days following the murder of my friend Charlie Kirk, Democrat Representative Rashida Tlaib once again referred to Republicans as "Fascists." This rhetoric inspires murderers, like Charlie Kirk's assassin, to kill their political opponents.

It should be clear to anyone that the death of Charlie is not an issue of "both sides," as the left has claimed since Charlie's tragic murder. Republicans have never encouraged the systematic cancellation, doxing, deplatforming, debanking, or mass arrest and inhumane incarceration of political protestors of Democrats.

Nor have Republicans subjected their "political opponents" to sustained legal harassment, illegal raids, or disbarment. And never have Republicans engaged in secretive shadow campaigns to rig elections before publicly bragging about it. President Trump has never compared then-candidate Joe Biden of being "more extreme" than the notorious segregationist George Wallace; nor has he claimed that Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, or any other Democratic lawmaker is an "existential threat to democracy" who would be "a dictator on day one" if elected and encourage "political violence instead of rejecting it." And I have never heard President Trump label Democratic lawmakers as "semi-fascist[s]" for remaining Democrats.

This rhetoric began when then-candidate Obama claimed that rural Americans were only bitter because "they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." Then in 2016, Hillary Clinton accused Americans, frustrated by the lack of economic investment and improvement under the Obama administration, of being a "basket of deplorables" for supporting candidate Trump. She claimed that half of Trump's supporters were "racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic - you name it," and doubled down when confronted by the media. And in 2018, then-candidate Biden referred to President Trump's supporters as "the dregs of society."

If our country is to heal from this sickening act of political violence against Charlie, which threatens to expose a hate-filled chasm of further political violence, we must be honest with ourselves: the left's continued rhetoric of demonizing, dehumanizing, and vilifying anyone who disagrees with them has brought this country to a dangerous precipice.

Our country also needs to explore the systematic causes of this political violence in younger generations, first by admitting that the "DEI programs" of public schools push radical ideologies encouraging this violence. These programs are in large part spearheaded by the teachers' unions, who donate over $43.5 million to liberal advocacy and Democratic PACs. As a part of lobbying for Democrats to get elected, they include clauses within their contract that prioritize race-based hiring practices, mandatory DEI trainings, and anti-racist development programs. This provides them with legal immunity to teach children that they are the victims of "racism," "colonialism," "the patriarchy," and other left-wing talking points - even if parents object - thus encouraging resentful thinking to take root from a very early age. Then, as these children slowly grow up, they are exposed to radical materials on the internet, via chat rooms and other means, which help to give justification or "voice" to these harmful beliefs. And as they go off to college, they are exposed to even more extremist left-wing propaganda through the likes of "critical race theory" and activist professors. Charlie's assassin navigated these online chatrooms, where he was radicalized and convinced that evil, barbarous actions were acceptable.

My point is that Charlie's assassin didn't just wake up one day and decide to commit an act of political violence. He was systematically radicalized to hold hatred towards conservatives and Christians. This radicalization did not come from nowhere: it came about due to the radicalization factories that have encouraged, operated, and are funded by Democrats and the teachers' unions and echoed by woke university professors. Recent actions across our country raise serious concerns that these schools and unions have become networks encouraging our nation's children to engage in political violence. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller rightly described these organizations as a "vast domestic terror movement" which have effectively terrorized ordinary Americans, especially conservatives, into remaining silent for fear of doxing, harassment, physical assault, or being targeted by radical leftists. In the wake of the numerous attacks on our way of life, including the murder of Charlie Kirk, I have called for the formation of a select committee on the money, influence, and power behind the radical left's assault on America and the rule of law." We must take every step to follow the money and uncover the force behind the NGOs, donors, media, public officials, and all entities driving this coordinated attack.

Know this: there is no excuse for any form of political violence in our country; nor is there any excuse to protect evil and hateful ideologies that poison the hearts of our children to do violence. The assassination of Charlie Kirk marks the beginning of a new age for our country: one in which hateful rhetoric and well-organized "factions" do not govern our politics. Let us pray for the end of political violence. Let us pray for Charlie's family. Let us pray that the Democratic establishment sees the error of its previous ways. And let us pray for our country's healing and future.

Democrats Oppose Resolution Honoring Charlie Kirk

This week, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a resolution honoring the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk. With a heavy heart, I took to the House floor and spoke on behalf of my friend. As I noted in my remarks, Charlie was a patriot, a Christian, and a tireless activist who traveled the country engaging young people in civil discourse. Charlie was doing what he loved doing: building a platform to share his faith in Jesus Christ and welcoming peaceful political dialogue and public debate before his life was cut short. Charlie considered Arizona his home, but he poured his heart and soul into America. He was a force of nature: he changed the direction of this nation.

The resolution "called upon all Americans - regardless of race, party affiliation, or creed - to reject political violence, recommit to respectful debate, uphold American values, and respect one another as fellow Americans."Sadly, 118 Democrats voted no, present, or skipped the vote on the resolution honoring the life of Charlie Kirk and condemning political violence, emphasizing they can't claim to be the party of unity when they choose politics over basic human decency.

Schumer, Democrats Block Resolution to Fund the Federal Government

Also this week, the House of Representatives took responsible action by passing legislation to fund the federal government and prevent a shutdown. The CR will ensure the federal government remains open and working for my constituents. It ensures that our troops get paid on time, and that our veterans continue getting the health care they need and other benefits that they have earned. It also ensures the Trump Administration can continue its work to secure our border, secure our communities from violent crime, and builda stronger economy.

Once it passed the House, the funding bill was immediately sent to the Senate where it was blocked by Senate Democrats, led by liberal New York Senator Chuck Schumer. Let's be perfectly clear, if the federal government shuts down on October 1, 2025, it will be for one reason and one reason only: Senator Chuck Schumer. Bowing to pressure from New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and terrified he will lose his Senate seat to her in a primary, Senator Schumer has chosen to lead the effort to shut the government down. Schumer is putting his political ambitions ahead of what's best for the country. Let's call it what it is: the Schumer Shutdown. I will have more to say about this in the coming days as our county careens closer to the Schumer Shutdown.

The Federal Reserve Finally Lowered the Interest Rates--Now What?

This week the Federal Reserve (The Fed) announced that it will cut interest rates. President Trump has been relentless in requesting the Fed do this.

There are good reasons to lower interest rates. Whether it's a home loan, a car loan, or a credit card, the lower rates allow all of us to borrow money for less cost. Traditionally, lower interest rates help spur economic growth and that is where the President is focused.

A lower rate also helps the government. As you know our country is in debt--big time. $37 trillion and counting. We spend far more money than we take in and far more than we have. Our government will spend $1.2 trillion this year just to pay the interest on all the money we owe. Interest on our national debt is the largest single expense we have. Lower rates mean less debt and potentially more money to spend on things that matter, like schools, our veterans, military, or our failing roads and bridges. To be honest, I'd much prefer we cut our national spending, but I keep getting outvoted on that by my colleagues in Congress from both sides of the aisle who are addicted to wasteful spending. I won't stop trying to cut unneeded spending but most of the time my bills or amendments to do just that rarely see the light of day. Many of my colleagues like to talk about cutting spending but very few vote for it.

I have concerns that we will make the same mistake made a few years ago when we heard about "quantitative easing." That is a fancy word for cranking up the printing press and printing more money. We did that a couple of years ago when the Fed had almost $5 trillion of new money minted. The result was catastrophic inflation--23% over 3 years. If you are paying $10 for a latte, $25 for a steak from Safeway, or $3,000 a month for a one-bedroom apartment, you've felt the inflation. It hurts everyone and lowers our standard of living.

While I like lower interest rates for all of us, but without reductions in wasteful spending, the long-term consequences could be more inflation. That's why I will continue to fight for lower spending and against higher taxes (the Democrat solution). I truly hope my colleagues join me in this.
