Six Southwestern Community College (SWCC) business and information technology students competed during the 2025 Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Student Leadership Conference, held during May in Orlando, and brought home various placings including two second place national finishes.
Top finishers for SWCC were Blair Allen of Barnard, Missouri, a business administration major, who placed second in the banking & finance category, and Christian Hansen of Benton, a business administration major, who placed second in advanced college accounting, third in business law & ethics, and fifth in financial math & analysis concepts.
Other individual national finishers included Will Collins of Barnard, Missouri, a computer networking & information technology major, who finished 10th in administrative support concepts; Logan Moyer of Bedford, a business administration major, who finished fourth in business law & ethics and sixth in financial math & analysis concepts; and Haily Strange of Eagleville, Missouri, an accounting major, who finished eighth in banking & finance and 10th place in fundamental word processing.
During the team portion of competition, a team of Christian Moyer of Bedford, a business transfer student; Logan Moyer; and Collins finished third and Allen, Hansen, and Strange finished fourth, both in the administrative support team category.
Dr. Barb Brown, BPA advisor and SWCC instructor, was recognized for 25 years of service as an advisor. Brown was recently named to the Classroom Educators Advisory Council (CEAC) and will represent the Iowa Post-Secondary Division at the annual CEAC Summer Meeting, July 12-15, in Nashville, TN.
During the national conference, SWCC students had opportunities to attend several leadership workshops, and during their open time students visited Cocoa Beach and dined at Fogo de Chao, a Brazilian steakhouse.
