Rep. Nancy Mace Issues Statement On Tony Gonzales Dropping Re-Election Bid

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Mar. 6, 2026)- Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) issued the following statement after Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) announced he will not seek re-election:

"A young woman is dead. This story begins and ends with her.

"Tony Gonzales is leaving. She doesn't get to.

"We forced a floor vote on our resolution to make Congress release every record of sexual harassment and misconduct it's been sitting on. Both Republicans and Democrats voted it down. They chose the cover-up over the victims.

"Tony Gonzales still couldn't survive the truth.

"To the 65 members who stood with us on this: you were on the right side of history. You were on the right side for our daughters.

"To the 357 who voted no: you now carry the burden of protecting the powerful. The victims' names were going to be redacted in our resolution. Don't say your vote protected them, they were already protected. You chose to keep the truth buried.

"A young woman deserved better from this institution. So did every woman whose name is still buried in those files. This isn't over."
