Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism Urges Senate Action to Combat Rising Antisemitic Violence

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and U.S. Senator James Lankford (R-OK), co-founders and co-chairs of the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) calling on the Senate to take swift, bipartisan action on a number of proposals that would help address the escalating violence, intimidation, and attacks targeting Jewish Americans and faith-based communities nationwide.

"As Senators committed to safeguarding Americans' fundamental freedom to worship without fear, we write to express deep concern about the rising tide of violence, intimidation, and vandalism targeting faith-based institutions across our country," wrote the Senators. "As we begin the new year, threats to churches, synagogues, mosques, gurdwaras, temples, and schools have not abated. That is why we believe Congress must act swiftly to protect houses of worship, faith-based schools, and the communities they serve."

As co-founder and co-chair of the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, Senator Rosen has been a leader in the fight against rising antisemitism. Last year, she successfully pushed the Coast Guard to reverse course on a policy change that would have downgraded the classification of swastikas from hate symbols to "potentially divisive." She and Senator Lankford also introduced bipartisan legislation to strengthen Holocaust education, introduced a bipartisan resolution condemning antisemitic attacks in the United States, and they unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz in the Senate. In 2024, Senator Rosen's bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Never Again Education Act became law.
