Groundbreaking highlights expansion of TDS' fiber network throughout southeast Wisconsin

LAKE GENEVA, Wisconsin - TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) marked the start of its Lake Geneva fiber project with a ceremonial groundbreaking at Flat Iron Park. The Wisconsin-based company is building high-speed networks throughout southeast Wisconsin featuring lightning-fast internet speeds, TV, phone and mobile service.

"This project is a significant investment in the region's future-providing residents and businesses with access to some of the fastest internet speeds available while supporting economic growth, innovation, education, work, and entertainment," TDS Telecom Senior Vice President of Network Operations Joe Read said.

The groundbreaking event included officials from the company, city and Visit Lake Geneva. TDS also presented a donation to the Lake Geneva Food Pantry in recognition of the construction milestone.

Fiber is considered the gold standard for internet connections because of its speed and reliability. Communities in TDS' southeast Wisconsin fiber expansion plans include Lake Geneva, Burlington, Camp Lake, Como, Delavan, Genoa City, Pell Lake, Walworth, and Williams Bay. When construction is completed, approximately 24,000 homes and businesses will have access to the TDS network.

In addition to high-speed internet, TDS TV®+ features a wide selection of networks and channels, cloud DVR, and integration with streaming apps. TDS also offers 10 Gigabit dedication connections for businesses, landline phone packages, and TDS Mobile, which provides nationwide 5G coverage at affordable prices.

Construction of the network will be done in phases, with customers able to connect once work in their neighborhood is completed. Residents will be notified of construction in several ways, including signage and by postcard, letter, and door hanger. Contractors will work to minimize disruptions and restore any areas impacted by the burying of fiber.

"As a Wisconsin-based company, we're proud to continue investing in our home state," Read said. "This project is 100% privately funded, and it builds on more than $1 billion TDS has invested in fiber infrastructure across Wisconsin because we believe communities deserve access to reliable, future-ready technology."
