Bettendorf's Edgewood Park Reveals New Playground

May 1, 2026 - Playground Now Open!

The City of Bettendorf's Parks & Recreation Department is excited to announce that the new playground at Edgewood Park is now open! The next part of this project is to install a new park shelter, which is expected to take place in June 2026. After that is constructed, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place.

March 24, 2026 - Spring is here, and the City of Bettendorf's Parks & Recreation Department is excited to announce that the Edgewood Park Renovation Project is getting underway the week of March 23, 2026!

Edgewood Park features a shelter, baseball field, half basketball court, tennis court, playground, and restrooms. After a Community Input Event on May 13, 2025, and an online vote on four concept plans, a modern playground, an expanded shelter with electrical access, and upgrades to the bathroom and storage building emerged as the winning concept plan of park-goers.

On September 16, 2025, City Council approved a purchase order to BCI Burke Company, LLC for new playground equipment. The $132,069 state-of-the-art playground system will replace the existing playground, which is estimated to be more than 15 years old. City Council also approved a purchase order to Creative Sites for a new park shelter, estimated at $92,283.

Installation of the new playground begins the week of March 23, 2026 and is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, weather permitting. The rest of Edgewood Park will remain open as construction occurs in the playground area.

October 17, 2025 - The City of Bettendorf's Parks & Recreation Department is excited to reveal the final designs and tentative timelines of three upcoming park renovation projects.

On September 16, 2025, City Council approved the purchase orders for playground and amenity upgrades at Lincoln, Friendship, and Edgewood Parks following three separate Community Input Events where residents had the opportunity to vote on their favorite park features and submit their own ideas on what improvements they'd like to see in their neighborhood parks.

"This process was so enjoyable for City Staff because of the overwhelming turnout at each of our Community Input Events," said John Byrnes, Parks & Recreation Director. "Building the next generation of neighborhood parks based on what park-goers prioritize creates an incredible sense of community and pride in our park system."

"Edgewood Park was identified early as a park that needed new life breathed into it," said Byrnes. "We saw a huge turnout of park-goers at our Community Input Event who shared their input on what the future of the park should look like. I am so excited about this project, which features an incredible, modern playground, added shelter, and a ton of 'small' upgrades to the bathhouse that people are going to love!"

This renovation project is expected to begin in Spring 2026. Follow the progress at Edgewood Park! In the meantime, crews have made some improvements to the bathroom based on comments at the Community Input Event. The bathroom now has new concrete, interior paint, doors, and epoxy floors.

July 16, 2025 - The votes are in! Thank you to everyone who participated in helping the Bettendorf Parks & Recreation Department energize Edgewood Park!

Nearly 400 people took our Edgewood Park Concept Plans Voting Poll (see below for more info) and the winner is… Concept 1 (see below), which includes a beautiful modern playground, an expanded shelter with electrical access for rentals and parties, and upgrades to the bathroom and storage building. Future upgrades to the park will continue as well after we complete these priorities.

As for the timeline, this project will start in Fall 2025 and is expected to be completed in Spring 2026.

June 17, 2025 -The City of Bettendorf's Parks & Recreation Department is asking for additional input on Edgewood Park, based on the feedback it received during its Community Input Event on May 13 (see earlier information below).

The top ideas have been used to create four concept plans for voters to rank - 1 being their favorite, 4 being their least favorite. There is also a write-in option if there are any additional comments voters want to make before a final decision is made.

April 30, 2025 - The City of Bettendorf's Parks & Recreation Department is inviting the community to give their input on what upgrades or additions should be made at Edgewood Park.

Edgewood Park (1400 23rd Street) currently has a shelter, baseball field, half basketball court, tennis court, playground, and restrooms. The City has set a budget of $250,000 to upgrade the park over the next year. Some ideas include updating the playground, baseball field, and shelter, or introducing some new features such as a futsal court, a walking track, a pump track, or even a ninja warrior set! You can see examples of these features on a special webpage created for this project.

"Neighborhood parks are essential to our community," said John Byrnes, Parks & Recreation Director. "On average, U.S. residents visit a local park and recreation facility 22 times a year - or nearly twice a month. Our goal is to invest in these neighborhood parks to get residents outside, active, social, and enjoying our beautiful city."

The Bettendorf Parks & Recreation Department is encouraging the community to share their thoughts on the improvements they'd like to see at Edgewood Park by attending a special event on Tuesday, May 13 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Edgewood Park. There will be free food and an opportunity for park-goers of all ages to "make their mark" on their favorite park features as well as submit their own ideas.

"We want to hear from you, the users of Edgewood Park!" added Byrnes. "This is a chance for anyone from a five-year-old child to folks who have lived in the neighborhood for decades to show up and tell us what they want to see in their park. We can't wait to enhance and energize Edgewood Park for the coming years, and this is a fantastic opportunity to hear directly from park-goers themselves."
