Investing More in Cincinnati Neighborhoods
The approved Fiscal Year 2027 budget more than doubles the capital available for neighborhood development and support, expanding the City's ability to invest in projects across Cincinnati.
Two specialized teams help put those resources to work. The Office of Strategic Growth (OSG) leads large-scale development, business investment, and major real estate projects, including efforts that can create jobs, add housing, strengthen commercial corridors, and bring underused properties back into productive use. The Department of Opportunity and Resident Services (DORS) focuses on smaller neighborhood projects such as placemaking and gateway signage, while also coordinating Community Council support, homeownership and homelessness initiatives, and residential tax abatements for single-family homes.
The gist: More funding and clearer roles give Cincinnati neighborhoods and residents more dedicated support for projects, services, and investment.

Citizens Academy Connects Residents with City Services
The 311Cincy Citizens Academy gives residents a behind-the-scenes look at how City services work, from submitting and routing service requests to using data and technology to improve response.
This fall's cohort has heard from 11 City departments and includes residents from neighborhoods across Cincinnati, from Sayler Park to Mt. Washington. Participants have learned how departments work together, how 311 connects residents with the right resources, and how they can use that knowledge to advocate for their neighborhoods. The session wraps up this week with a City Hall discussion, reflection, and brainstorming before participants graduate from the program. Applications for the next Citizens Academy are expected to open in spring 2027.
The gist: 311Cincy is helping residents better understand City services and become stronger community ambassadors.

BuildReady Design Competition Winners Announced
The City of Cincinnati launched the BuildReady Design Competition this summer to explore creative, practical ideas for housing and gather community feedback on the kinds of designs residents want to see in their neighborhoods.
The competition closed September 2, and the winning designs were recognized at a September 14 awards ceremony held with the Cincinnati Chapter of the Urban Land Institute. Those designs will help guide the next phase of community engagement as the City identifies features to carry forward into future pre-approved plans.
The gist: The winning concepts are helping shape the next phase of BuildReady and future pre-approved housing plans.
