Garland Public Libraries is proud to announce that the renovated Central Library has been recognized with two major awards from Texas Downtown Association's Best Public Improvement category.
Garland's libraries earned the President's Award and the People's Choice Award for cities with populations over 50,000. The President's Award was selected by a panel of industry professionals, while the People's Choice Award was determined through public voting on social media.
The Best Public Improvement category honors projects that enhance public spaces and contribute to downtown vibrancy and revitalization. Completed earlier this year, the Central Library renovation transformed Garland's largest and oldest library into a brighter, more accessible and welcoming community destination. Upgrades included technology, flexible gathering areas, sustainable design features and a reimagined children's area. The renovation reinforces the library's role as a cultural and community hub in Downtown Garland.
Both awards were presented during the Texas Downtown President's Awards Gala, held as part of the organization's annual conference celebrating outstanding downtown projects, places and people across the state.
Garland Public Libraries extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the project and voted in the People's Choice competition. This recognition reflects the community's shared pride and commitment to creating spaces that inspire connection, learning and creativity. Special appreciation goes to the Downtown Development Office for its continued partnership and support.
