Dolly Parton 's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was vandalized shortly after the beloved singer-songwriter's death. Repairs are underway.

Parton "died peacefully today [August 25] in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old," according to an official statement issued at that time. Family, friends, fans and fellow country artists have mourned Parton's loss in an outpouring of tributes to her. The "I Will Always Love You" icon's Hollywood Walk of Fame star, which she received in the mid-1980s, served as a makeshift memorial in her honor with flowers and candles. The star was reportedly vandalized, with Parton's name appearing scratched out and flowers stolen. Repairs are already underway.

Hollywood Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Ana Martinez said in a statement to PEOPLE on Tuesday (September 1): "A fan went to the star yesterday and reported on social that the star was vandalized with many scratches. From the photo she posted, it does appear the star was vandalized with scratches. This repair was set up late last week and the crew just completed the first part of making said repairs. The star repairs are currently ongoing and are done by the Hollywood Historic Trust which maintains and repairs the Walk of Fame stars. The star will cure and will be polished on Friday [September 4] for fans to enjoy."

Parton's representatives confirmed to PEOPLE, "after bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones." Parton was laid to rest beside her husband, Carl Dean, in "a small, private service" for her immediate family in Nashville.
