DOJ announces indictment in 2024 violent gun case


A 24-year-old Delaware man has been indicted for his involvement in the 2024 death of Edward Fordjour. Xavier Curry, of New Castle, was indicted by a New Castle County grand jury on April 14, 2025, on charges of Murder First Degree, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Riot, Conspiracy, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, and Possession of an Assault Weapon. The indictment followed an extensive investigation by New Castle County Police Criminal Investigation Unit.

"This was a tragic and preventable loss," said Attorney General Kathy Jennings. "I am deeply grateful to our prosecutors and the New Castle County Police for their work in this case. Our hearts are with the victim's family and loved ones at this difficult time."

"This outcome is the result of outstanding teamwork and dedication," said Colonel James J. Leonard III. "I want to commend our officers for their swift and professional response at the scene, and offer my sincere thanks to the Criminal Investigations Unit for their tireless, thorough work in pursuing justice. Their thorough investigation played a key role in bringing us to this point."

On May 5, 2024, 42-year-old Edward Fordjour was shot and killed in the parking lot of Taylortown Shopping Center after exiting a nightclub. Fordjour had intervened when several people in the parking lot accosted a friend of his. After getting his friend into a car, Fordjour was going to his car when several people accosted him and knocked him to the ground. While on the ground, Fordjour was shot. Fordjour was transported to Christiana Hospital and died there on May 7, 2024.
